The Role OF Brokerage Firms:

1. The licensed brokerage firm will have the authority to open an account for non-Qatari upon receiving a written authorization/notification from the investor.

2. When trading in securities (buying and selling), the brokerage firm is required to obtain a written authorization and buying of selling order either in person or by fax or phone (provided documenting the order within three days).

In addition, the licensed brokerage firm has to take into consideration the following criteria:

1. Examining the investor’s identification card in its entirety and making sure whether or not the investor is eligible to transact in securities.  A copy of the investor’s identification card must be obtained along with a copy of the investor’s identification number (NIN), which is issued by the central registration department at the DSM.

2. Providing a copy of a power of attorney and examining the accuracy of it in its entirety if it is required to transact in buying or selling securities.

Once all the above requirements are met, the brokerage firms can verify the accuracy of their client’s signatures and other required documents. The brokerage firm will be held responsible for any trading of their behalf.
